Fred Prejean completed his primary and high school education in Lafayette, LA at St. Paul’s and Holy Rosary Institute, respectively. Following six years in the Marine Corps Reserve, Fred enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge and received his B.A. Degree in Accounting. Additional educational studies and professional development include study at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA and the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke University in Durham, NC.
 
Fred has been married to his wife, Ola, for 33 years, and they have one daughter, Masharika Prejean (Ma-sha-ri-ka). 
 
“My objectives are to fill a void in an environment that includes fiscal analysis, planning, development and management”.
 
Fred is President of Empire Management, Inc., and is Chairman of the Lafayette Consolidated Government Planning and Zoning Commission where he helped lead the effort to create Lafayette’s first Comprehensive Development Plan, Lafayette in a Century (LINC).  He served as Undersecretary of the La. State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries from 1991-1996 and gained experience testifying on financial matters before La. State Senate Finance Committee, House Appropriations Committee and the La. State Natural Resource Committee.
 
From years of community activism and professional work, Fred has a wealth of experience successfully problem-solving and working with different groups to achieve positive results for our neighborhoods, city, parish and state. Fred was presented the Lafayette City-Parish Distinguished Citizen Award during the city-parish council meetings held on October 2, 2007 as well as September 9, 2008. The awards were presented in recognition of Prejean’s important contributions to the betterment of our community and the quality of life of all citizens. The certificates of commendation represents Lafayette’s official recognition of Fred’s outstanding service and unselfish efforts, which have made our community a better place in which to live.
